Autism Resources in Ontario

Foundational Family Services are free for every family registered in the Ontario Autism Program. They include caregiver workshops, coaching, brief consultations, transition supports, and family clinic days, and every provider below is drawn from the official ontario.ca roster.

Here is the detail most families miss: you can register with any provider on this list, no matter where in Ontario you live. Many offer virtual programs, so a workshop from a Northern provider is just as available to a family in Mississauga.

The Five OAP Regions

The province organizes providers into five regions. The map below is approximate and for orientation only. Click a region to jump to its provider list.

Western Region

Hamilton, Niagara, Brantford, London, and Windsor. Five providers cover the region, anchored by the children’s treatment centres.

Central Region

The largest list. Barrie through Waterloo, Halton, Peel, and York Region, with twelve providers to choose from.

Northern Region

Eighteen providers, the longest list in the province, and several offer remote and travel-based service across huge distances.

Eastern Region

Ottawa, Kingston, Belleville, Peterborough, and Durham. Eight providers including the CHEO autism program.

Toronto Region

Four providers serve the city itself, and Toronto families can also register with any provider elsewhere on this page.

What Kind of Organizations Are These

None of these are government agencies. They are independent organizations contracted and funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, which is why the services are free to registered families. The mix includes established children’s treatment centres, hospital-based programs, large autism and community-services nonprofits, and, especially in the North, private clinical practices contracted to cover long distances.

One distinction worth knowing before you call: Foundational Family Services means the workshop, coaching, consultation, and transition menu. It does not mean funded therapy hours, which are a separate OAP stream called core clinical services. Our program guide below walks through how the two fit together.
